“Through my Ethiopia series I wanted to portray the raw beauty of people who live a more simple and organic life. My own personal beliefs also have strong roots in Ethiopia and are therefore a peoples whom I share an important connection with. There is an essence in their expressions which so clearly represents the recognition of hope and purpose that we all have opportunity to grasp, and this is what I endeavor to portray in my works above all else.” – Rebekah

“My Charlie series paintings are part of a broader series titled ‘A place of Solitude’, portraying the sense of peace and contentment one can have in their place of solitude, away from the pressures of society and with time to reflect on the positives in life. I wanted to emphasize this feeling with light play and soft expressions. When I first met Charlie I knew she would be the perfect subject for the series. She is a beautiful, gentle person and I was immediately drawn to paint her” – Rebekah
“Phini is a young woman I met in Picton, Marlborough. She has an infectiously vibrant and yet grounded personality and I adored the depth in her expressions, perfect for a painting in my series ‘A Place of Solitude’. Phini is half Ghanaian and half German and regularly visits her grandmother and partner in Ghana.” – Rebekah
More works of Antonia to come…
“This is Naveen, also known as Benjamin. German adopted from India, Naveen is an inspiring person I met in Havelock with a similar story to that in the movie ‘Lion’ where the character travels back to India and finds his birth parents against all ods. I have captured him here inside a boat shed overlooking Ngakuta Bay where I grew up. A reflection of discovery and exploration of new places.” – Rebekah
